How Many Guests Fit at a Round Table? Complete Size Guide (24″–60″)

At Event Rental Solution, we rent round tables in five sizes — 24″, 30″, 36″, 48″, and 60″ — and each one fits a different number of guests. If you just want the quick answer: our 60″ round, the largest we carry, seats 8 guests comfortably and up to 10 if you’re going casual. A 48″ table fits 4 to 6. A 36″ table works for 2 to 4. The 24″ and 30″ rounds aren’t built for seated dining at all — they’re cocktail and display tables. Below, we’ll break down every size we stock in San Jose and the Bay Area, what it actually seats, and how to figure out how many tables your guest list really needs.

Round Table Sizes and Seating Capacity at a Glance

Here’s what each size in our round table rentals actually fits, based on our own inventory and current Bay Area pricing:

24″ round — $12/day. Built for cocktail hour, small displays, or a high-top surface. Not meant for seated dining.

30″ round — $10/day. Same idea as the 24″: cocktail receptions, small gathering spots, or a gift and display table.

36″ round — seats 2 to 4 guests, $11/day. Good for an intimate dinner for two couples, a card table, or an accent table near the dance floor.

48″ round — seats 4 to 6 guests, $13/day. Fits a small family-style dinner or a casual weeknight gathering.

60″ round — seats 8 comfortably, up to 10 if you’re going casual or buffet-style, $12/day. This is our most popular size, and the one most Bay Area weddings and banquets use.

How We Got These Numbers

These aren’t textbook figures — they come from years of setting up tables for real Bay Area events. A 60″ round seats 8 comfortably once you factor in chargers, glassware, and a centerpiece; push it to 10 and elbows start touching, which is fine for a casual buffet but tight for a plated dinner. If your caterer is doing a formal, multi-course meal, plan on 8 per 60″ table, not 10.

How Many Round Tables Do You Need for Your Guest Count?

Once you know how many guests you’re seating per table, the math is simple: divide your total guest count by seats-per-table, then round up. For 100 wedding guests at 8 per 60″ table, that’s 12.5 — so plan for 13 tables if you want everyone comfortably seated, or 10 tables if you’re fine with a tighter, more casual buffet-style layout.

For a smaller event, like a 40-guest baby shower or retirement party, that’s five 60″ rounds at 8 each, or eight 48″ rounds at 5 each if you want a more intimate, small-group feel.

Most event planners use a rule of thumb of 24 to 30 inches of table edge per guest. That’s why our 60″ round (about 188 inches around) comfortably fits 8 people at 24 inches each, with a little breathing room left over.

Round Tables vs. Rectangular or Banquet Tables

Round tables are great for conversation and work well in tighter spaces, but they seat fewer guests per square foot than a straight banquet table. An 8-foot banquet table seats 8 to 10 guests in a line and takes up less floor space per seat — worth considering if you’re short on room. Our banquet table rentals come in the same sizes our seating guides reference, so it’s easy to mix and match table shapes at one event.

What About the 24-Inch and 30-Inch Round Tables?

We’ll be straightforward here: the 24″ and 30″ rounds in our inventory are not seated-dining tables. Try to seat four people around a 24″ table and everyone’s elbows will collide. These smaller rounds work best as cocktail hour standing tables, gift or guest-book displays, or an accent surface for a signature drink station. If you need seated dining for a small group, the 36″ round is your starting point. For a true standing cocktail hour setup, our cocktail table rentals are built specifically for that purpose, and they pair naturally with the 24″ and 30″ rounds for displays nearby.

Common Round Table Sizing Mistakes (and Quick Fixes)

A few sizing mistakes come up often enough on our deliveries that they’re worth flagging before you book:

Assuming every 60″ table seats 10. With a full place setting, charger plates, and a centerpiece, 8 guests is more realistic. Save 10 for a lighter, buffet-style meal where there’s less on the table itself.

Guessing on linen size. Round tables need a linen sized to the table’s diameter, not a one-size-fits-most cloth. Here’s the standard floor-length pairing for each size:

Table SizeLinen Size (Floor-Length)Drop
24″ Round90″ RoundFull drop, slight pool
30″ Round90″ RoundFull drop to floor
36″ Round96″ RoundFull drop to floor
48″ Round108″ RoundFull drop to floor
60″ Round120″ RoundFull drop to floor

Too short and the table legs show; too long and it pools on the floor. Our linen rentals team stocks these sizes and can match the right one to each table you book, so you’re not guessing on drop length.

Mixing sizes without a layout plan. It’s fine to pair 60″ rounds for dinner with a 36″ round for a gift table or cake table, just sketch your floor plan first so you know everything fits before delivery day.

Skipping walk space. Leave at least 24 to 36 inches between table edges so servers and guests can move without squeezing past chairs, especially near the buffet or bar.

Round Tables for San Jose and Bay Area Events

Backyard parties in San Jose, Sunnyvale, and Milpitas usually have tighter footprints than a rented hall, so a mix of 36″ and 48″ rounds often fits better than a full run of 60″ tables. Banquet halls and hotel ballrooms across the South Bay, on the other hand, almost always default to 60″ rounds seating 8, since that’s the size most caterers and venue coordinators plan around.

Corporate events are a bit different. A team lunch for a Cupertino tech company might do better with a handful of 48″ rounds for smaller group conversations, rather than one long banquet setup. If you’re planning an event in Fremont, Santa Clara, or anywhere else in the Bay Area, we deliver and set up round tables the same day in most cases, so last-minute headcount changes don’t have to derail your seating chart. The same logic applies whether you’re setting up in Palo Alto, Mountain View, or a backyard in Union City — table size follows guest count and venue footprint, not the neighborhood.

Renting Round Tables (and Everything Else) from Event Rental Solution

Round tables are only half the seating picture. Once you know your table count, you’ll need chairs to match — our chiavari chair rentals pair well with 60″ rounds for weddings, while folding chairs work for more casual gatherings. For a full setup, browse our table and chair rentals hub to see everything we offer in one place, from linens to lighting.

One honest note: if your headcount is still moving around a week out, tell us. We’d rather adjust your table order two days before delivery than have you short a table on the day of.

Frequently Asked Questions

A 60-inch round table seats 8 guests comfortably with a full place setting, chargers, and a centerpiece. You can push it to 10 for a more casual, buffet-style meal, but it’s tighter. For formal dinners, plan on 8 per table.

At 8 guests per 60-inch table, 100 guests need about 13 tables for comfortable formal seating. If you’re doing a lighter buffet setup at 10 per table, you can get away with 10 tables instead. Either way, sketch the floor plan before you book.

No — these smaller rounds are built for cocktail hour, small displays, or a drink station, not seated dining. Seating four people around a 24-inch table leaves almost no elbow room. For a small seated group, start with the 36-inch round instead.

Event Rental Solution’s largest round table is 60 inches — we don’t carry a 72-inch round. If you need to seat more than 8 to 10 guests together, two 60-inch tables or one of our banquet tables usually works better than looking for a larger round.

Our round table prices are the same across Fremont, San Jose, and the rest of the Bay Area: $12/day for 24-inch, $10/day for 30-inch, $11/day for 36-inch, $13/day for 48-inch, and $12/day for 60-inch. Delivery is quoted separately based on your address.

Not automatically, but they’re easy to bundle. We rent chiavari chairs and folding chairs sized to match every round table, plus linens cut to the right drop length for each size, so you can order your whole table setup from Event Rental Solution in one call.
